Melbourne Design Week

Hi there,

Melbourne Design Week is almost here, and we wanted to share a little preview of what we have been working on. It has been a big few months in the studio, and we are excited to finally have some of it out in the world.

This year we will be showing across four exhibitions, including our own show at Fiona Lynch Office in Collingwood -- a chance to see new work alongside prototypes and sketches, with making placed in plain view. Opening this Thursday.

Work Shop On Permanence in Contemporary Practice

Presented by Fomu Studio and Waverley Mills

14–16 May and 21–23 May

Fiona Lynch Office, 75 Langridge Street, Collingwood

Fomu presents new works alongside earlier pieces, prototypes and sketches, sharing space with Waverley Mills. Both studios share a thread to Tasmania, and the exhibition draws that connection out, looking at what endures in making and material.

A Sense of Occasion

14–17 May

NHO, 1/108 Moor Street, Fitzroy

Each designer in this exhibition was asked to reflect on a moment in their own life that called for celebration, and channel that into a vessel for wine or champagne. Fomu’s piece sits among work by Jordan Fleming, Studio Dokola, Brahman Perera and others.

All Heaven Broke Loose

Presented by KOEH Studio

14–16 May, 11am–6pm

Packing Room, Abbotsford Convent

All Heaven Broke Loose brings together objects that work through gentleness, attending to form, material and bodily address. Fomu joins a group of makers exploring sensitivity and welcome as active design values.

Saturday opening celebration 5–7pm.

Stonygrad: Material Encounters

Presented by Jessica Lillico and Sean Fennessy

23–24 May, 11am–4pm

Warrandyte — private address, ticket holders notified prior

Stonygrad is the self-built stone and timber home of modernist artist Danila Vassilieff, constructed by hand in the Warrandyte bush over decades. Fomu is among a group of makers whose work will be placed within its cave-like spaces for two days only. Entry is staggered and tickets are in demand — join the waitlist via the Melbourne Design Week website.
