Sustainability
Sustainability is integrated into every stage of Fomu’s design and manufacturing process. We create enduring furniture with a considered material footprint and a life beyond a single generation.
Design
Each Fomu design is developed with longevity, functionality and endurance in mind. Thoughtful, refined manufacturing helps minimise material waste and ensures our pieces can serve generations to come.
Manufacturing
Our Australian manufacturing network brings together highly skilled craftspeople with a shared commitment to quality and environmental responsibility. Long-term relationships with makers encourage collaboration, accountability and consistently refined outcomes.
Materials
Ethical sourcing is a foundational principle at Fomu.
- Timber: FSC-certified timber is sourced through selective harvesting, supporting natural forest regeneration.
- Finishes: Our plant-based wax and oil finish is derived from sunflower, soya, linseed and thistle oils.
- Bouclé: Australian and New Zealand wool is woven in Biella, Italy, where the natural calcium content of the water contributes to a low-impact finishing process.
- Recycled wool felt: Leftover Italian fabric is sorted and repurposed into a circular upholstery material.
Sustainability is both a commitment and a responsibility: thoughtful design, ethical manufacturing and objects made to remain useful.
